Child Protection Policy

The Third World Run charity is fully committed to safeguarding the well-being of its members, volunteers and all participants in the annual Third World Run. Every individual involved in the Third World Run charity or participating in the annual Third World Run should at all times show respect and understanding for their rights, safety and welfare and conduct themselves in such a way that reflects the principles of the Third World Run charity.

We at the Third World Run charity are fully committed to good practice which protects children from harm. Members and volunteers accept and recognise their responsibility to provide an environment which promotes the safety and well-being of the child at all times. To achieve this we will:
• develop an awareness of the issues which may lead to children being harmed
• adopt child protection guidelines for members, volunteers and all adults involved in the annual Third World Run
• ensure good and safe practices for the annual Third World Run
• keep child protection policies under regular review.

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

The Third World Run charity will ensure that:
• the welfare of the child is paramount
• all children whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity, have the right to protection from harm and abuse
• all suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
• all members and volunteers involved in the annual Third World Run understand that they have a responsibility to report concerns to the appropriate officers
• the needs of disabled children and others who may be particularly vulnerable will be taken into account

COMMITMENT

The Third World Run charity will ensure the safety and protection of all children participating in the Annual Third World Run through adherence to the Child Protection guidelines adopted by the charity.
A child is defined as a person under the age of 18.

The Children (Northern Ireland) Order (1995) is based on a clear and consistent set of principles designed with the common aim of promoting the welfare of children. Children have a right to be safe and all members and volunteers are required to ensure that this fundamental principle takes precedence over all other considerations.
